Position Summary

The Controller is the senior financial leader for our small–midsize manufacturing organization operating two active legally separate divisions.  This hands-on role is responsible for directing all finance activities, including accounting operations, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, while ensuring strong internal controls and achievement of financial objectives.

The Controller also provides executive oversight of the IT department to ensure financial discipline, risk management, and scalability.  The role serves as Plan Administrator for the Company’s Retirement/401(k) plan and plays a key leadership role in domestic and international expansion initiatives, including financial modeling and on-site support.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and manage all finance activities for 2+ legally distinct manufacturing entities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, treasury, and compliance functions.
  • Maintain strong internal control systems across all entities.
  • Coordinate audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships.
  • Close coordination with Group HQ on financial reporting and liquidity issues.
  • Act as key interface between local management and Group HQ functions (Controlling, Accounting, Tax, Treasury).
  • Proactive alignment of local GAAP reporting with Group standards and active contribution to group-wide projects (e.g. transfer pricing, Pillar2).
  • Establish annual sales, operating and capital budgets for both divisions.
  • Lead structured management review meetings.
  • Drive accountability for EBITDA, margin performance, and working capital metrics.
  • Ensure financial objectives are achieved in alignment with strategic plans.
  • Oversee standard costing systems, BOM accuracy, labor and overhead allocation.
  • Manage inventory controls, cycle counts, and valuation processes.
  • Analyze production variances and plant performance metrics.
  • Partner with operations leadership to improve cost efficiency and margin performance.
  • Provide cost-based data to support pricing strategy and profitability analysis.
  • Develop financial models to support new facilities and capital investments.
  • Conduct ROI, NPV, and break-even analyses.
  • Evaluate regulatory, tax, and cost implications of international operations.
  • Ensure payroll controls and compliance processes are effective.
  • 401(k) Plan Administration
  1. Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor requirements.
  2. Serve as Plan Administrator and fiduciary for the Company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
  3. Oversee Form 5500 filing, annual testing, and governance documentation.
  4. Coordinate with third-party administrators and investment advisors.
  5. Comply with annual 401k audit requirement.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support site evaluations and provide financial oversight on expansion execution.

IT Oversight

 

The Controller provides executive oversight of the IT function to ensure technological infrastructure supports operational excellence, data integrity, cybersecurity, and scalable growth.

Key IT Infrastructure Manager responsibilities to oversee:

  1. IT budgeting, capital expenditures, and cost management.
  2. Ensure ERP systems are optimized for manufacturing operations and financial reporting.
  3. Evaluate system scalability to support multi-entity and international growth.
  4. Ensure appropriate cybersecurity controls, data governance, and internal control safeguards are in place.
  5. Assess technology investments for ROI and operational impact.
  6. Responsible for system upgrades, automation initiatives, and digital transformation projects.
  7. Ensure business continuity planning and risk mitigation strategies are financially supported.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA Required.  Experience as a certified public accountant a plus.
  • 8–12+ years progressive finance leadership experience.
  • Direct experience in a small or mid-size manufacturing organization.
  • Strong cost accounting and inventory management expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting facility capital projects.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Costa Rica.

Job Summary

  • Responsible for Maintaining Processes and Equipment in a Full Capacity State and Minimizing Equipment Downtime
  • Responsible for Supporting Design Transfer to Manufacturing for New Process/Product Developments and supporting Process Validations projects
  • Responsible for Equipment, Fixturing and Tooling design
  • Responsible for maintaining and communicating project timelines to Production, Quality and Engineering Team Members
  • Assists with Root Cause and Nonconformance Investigations and corrective/preventive action implementation as well as determining opportunities for improvement
  • Supports the Facility EH&S and Environmental Monitoring Programs
  • Interacts with other functional areas such as Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Scheduling, and Customer Service.

Essential Functions

  • Creates IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and final reports for new process and equipment development according to internal procedures and risk-based approaches
  • Determines and reviews manufacturing processes for cost effectiveness and feasibility, both before and after engineering releases to manufacturing
  • Identifies new manufacturing or product technologies for review and possible development activities within the production and engineering teams.
  • Supports Transition from Manual to Automated Processes
  • Determines project priorities with the Operations Managers and Engineering Director, and implements cost-reduction projects; maintains timelines and detailed documentation as required
  • Creates Value Stream Maps of Current Manufacturing and Future Manufacturing States
  • Assures work force utilization, facility layout and operational data, process flow charts and determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment
  • Collaborates and Trains Operators/Setup Techs
  • Troubleshoots Current Tooling, Fixture and Equipment Issues
  • Creates Troubleshooting Guides for Equipment
  • Evaluates Machine Preventive Maintenance Program and tracks Unscheduled Maintenance
    • Supports Maintenance of Equipment and Robotics/Automation
  • Provides Feedback to Departmental Leads and Supervisors on Maintaining Equipment Efficiencies and Standardization of Processes and Setups
  • Facilitates 6S, Lean Six Sigma, and Bright Idea Programs for assigned Departments

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager (GM) to lead the development and operation of our new medical device coating facility in Costa Rica. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the construction and buildout of the facility, managing relationships with local contractors, and establishing the operational infrastructure and team needed for a successful launch and ongoing operation. This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership position that requires a strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills, deep experience in manufacturing leadership, and a solid understanding of operating in a Free Trade Zone environment.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1: Facility Build & Launch
  • Serve as the primary project lead for all site construction and buildout activities.
  • Coordinate with engineering, quality, and facilities teams in the U.S. to align construction with process requirements.
  • Manage local contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure timeline, budget, and quality goals are met.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and FTZ requirements.
  • Participate in layout planning and oversee installation of coating lines and support equipment.
  • Develop project status updates and report regularly to executive leadership.
Phase 2: Organizational Development
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and development of the local team, including manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and support staff.
  • Work with the Director of HR and local recruiting partners to develop hiring plans and HR policies.
  • Build and model a strong plant culture that reflects the values and standards of SSG.
Phase 3: Operational Ramp-Up
  • Oversee day-to-day operations post-launch including production, safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Implement metrics-driven management systems to support scalability and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Serve as the local customer interface for key accounts, particularly during validation and ramp-up phases.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, customer-specific requirements, and internal QMS standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in greenfield facility buildout or major expansion projects.
  • Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated manufacturing environments (ISO 13485, FDA, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Costa Rican business, labor, and regulatory environment, ideally within FTZs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • US Visa preferred.
